I think it went well, although they're still recommending surgery. We don't know if we can afford the surgery.
What we learned is that at the initial semen analysis, his count was 3 million. Motility was around 40%, and morphology was at 50%.
And in the analysis done yesterday by the urology team, his count was up to 18 million, with 44% motility and 62% morphology.
For those of you who know nothing about semen analyses (I didn't, before we began this journey), average sperm count is something like 66 million. The cutoff to a 'low' sperm count is 20 million. So, while we're still in the low range, I'm going to say that going from 3 million to 18 million is pretty effing phenomenal. I'm going to give credit to the FertilAid on this one. I know I can't prove it, but nothing else has been done differently.
So now we're waiting on BoyWonder's bloodwork to come back, and then the doctor will call us back to see about scheduling the surgery. But here's the thing. The surgery he kept trying to pitch to us isn't covered by insurance. At all. And the particular surgery they want to do, according to the paperwork they gave us at the end of the appointment, runs somewhere around $20,000.
So until the doctor calls back, we're going to relax. We might not have a surgery. We might just keep trying naturally for a while, until we can figure out a way to pay for it all. Or we might go for one of the other procedures, but they have a much higher failure rate.
That's where we're at. We got a few answers but for the most part we're still waiting.
And, for once, I'm okay with that.
