Soundtrack Sunday: The Mariner's Revenge Song

This is a Decemberists song, if you don't already know it.

This is a song I like to turn on and play really, really loud if I'm having a crappy day. And, if this gives you any indication of what a goof I can be, I've also been known to turn this up really, really loud on our home theater system and dance around the house like a child.

You can't listen to this and stay in a bad mood. Well, maybe if you're planning on seeking revenge on an evil, STD-ridden pirate.

And again, I'm not giving you the lyrics because they're in the video. But, because it's a story song, I'll give you a quick rundown.

Protagonist's mother hooks up with a boy who likes gambling and whores. He gives the mom an STD and leaves her with all his debt. And then she dies.

Protagonist is an orphan, who eventually goes to live in a priory. He hears a pirate confessing something, and realizes the guy responsible for his mother's death is a pirate captain. So, he (protagonist) gets a job on a ship and sets out to find the scumbag.

Just as the two come into contact, a giant whale comes up and eats both ships, and, miraculously, both the protagonist and the scumbag captain survive... For a while.

But seriously, watch the video. The artwork is awesome, and the Decemberists are amazing. I'm still kicking myself for not going to see them seven years ago, when they were touring for this album.
